The mission of the San Francisco Public Health Foundation is to develop and mobilize resources in support of the goals of the San Francisco Department of Public Health and its community partners to protect and promote health.
Our job is to streamline and simplify our community health partners’ paths to successfully serve San Francisco’s most vulnerable residents.
Fiscal Sponsorship
San Francisco’s public health government agencies and non-profits help provide services to those left behind or outside the loop of conventional healthcare. To allow these providers to focus their time and limited funds on these much needed services, SFPHF has developed an umbrella public health nonprofit that extends tax-exempt status for fundraising and a shared administrative platform which may include payroll, employee benefits, publicity, insurance and grant seeking training. Projects benefit from becoming part of the larger legal entity, but carry out their program strategies independently.
Fiscal sponsorship saves projects time and money by providing tax-exempt status, whether as an interim step before creating an independent 501(c)(3) organization, or to benefit from the efficiencies and cost savings of a shared platform for an extended period of time. Working under the umbrella of a fiscal sponsor makes sense for projects that are just starting out, choosing to stay small and lean, or working on increasing credibility and visibility to funders and the public at large.
We offer customized, individual attention to get things started quickly, and are as passionate about our community’s public health as the projects we support. Those we team with benefit from being part of a family of organizations working towards similar goals, an aggregate of experience that allows SFPHF to offer a full range of targeted services at a very competitive rate.
Spotlight
LGBTQ Minus Tobacco
LGBTQ Minus Tobacco is working hard to raise awareness about tobacco use in the community and make bar patios smoke-free in SF and Oakland. Their team set up a booth at the SF Carnaval event in May, as well as during SF Pride, and the director, Brian Davis, was featured in a segment on KRON 4 News to talk about their work. We value and support them and the work they do to help our local communities stay tobacco-free. Click here to watch the news segment and follow them on Facebook and Instagram.
